    Science Fair of JYIS

For the importance of activity and learning integration, new activity was on JYIS ground today, February the 21st 2017 under the supervision of the Foreign Education Head, Mrs. Nadia Alghamdi.  The school was honored with her presence and the turn up of the international schools  representatives and parents to witness our annual Science fair.

We believe that science fair is an invaluable experience for our students where they have to apply the scientific method to conduct independent research. There are many objectives for organizing such an activity where the students can benefit from in many ways. This includes stimulating the interest, curiosity and desire to explore the world in order to understand the connection between what is learned in the class and what happens in real life.

Our science fair today has given the students the opportunity to  experience the methods by which all scientific knowledge has been and is still being gathered.

The activity was held from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM. The ground of JYIS was very colourful and informative which has in lighted the theme of the day. 98% of students were involved in the activity with enthusiasm to challenge each other and impress their mother’s, teachers and guests with their work. A team of judges were evaluating and judging the projects by the given criteria  during their tour for the best three projects in each grade level.

A recognition ceremony was later on held, announcing the winners and giving out the position brooches and gifts by our chief guest Mrs. Nadia Alghamdi.

At the end of the day, the event was a success and all students were very happy with their achievements. Big thanks to our dear science teachers and school members who has helped in every single details to make this event a successful experience for all.

Please visit the school’s facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jyis2012 for a closer look of our achievements up to date.

    Plickers

One easy way many educators are using technology in the classroom is to have students respond to short questions during a lesson to test for understanding. That works fine when all kids have a smartphone or device, but Plickers is a solution for more low-tech classrooms. Teachers issue cards with choices on them (A,B,C,D). The teacher poses the question and students hold up the card corresponding to the answer they want to give. The teacher then uses her phone or iPad to scan across the room. Plickers registers the results and feeds it all into a database. It can be used on iPhone and Android devices as well as on the Web and is free.
